Big Sky Mont. Named 2013 Best Overall Resort

April 11, 2013

BIG SKY, Mont. - Big Sky Resort of Montana has been named North America's favorite ski resort by visitors to OnTheSnow.com, winning the top honors in this year's Visitors' Choice Awards. The Visitors' Choice Awards, selected by visitors to OnTheSnow.com, are the most comprehensive user-generated ski resort awards in the world. Awards are presented for both overall and regional winners and include five categories: Favorite Overall Resort, Best Downhill Terrain, Most Family Friendly, Best Terrain Park and Best Nightlife.

"The Visitors' Choice Awards help to paint an accurate portrait of the resort experiences of our visitors at OnTheSnow.com," global content director Patrick Crawford said. "They allow North American skiers and snowboarders to have their voices heard amongst their peers regarding the sport they know and love."

To receive the award the ski resort with the top average score (on a scale of 1 to 5) in each category, and a minimum number of entries, is selected. Visitors then ranked them in five categories: Overall Favorite, Best Nightlife, Most Family Friendly, Best Downhill Terrain and Best Terrain Park.

This year Big Sky Resort took home the honors for a second time in four years thanks to great terrain, consistent snow and non-existent lift lines. The resort was awarded Best Overall in 2009.

Onthesnow.com is the internet snow reporting website for the Mountain News Corporation. Mountain News has been doing radio snow reports for over 40 years; they are the #1 website for snow reporting on the information superhighway.

On the website, skiers and snowboarders can write reviews of resorts that they have visited and are also asked to rank them in five categories: Most Family-friendly, Best Nightlife, Best Downhill Terrain, Best Terrain Park and, the most sought-after, Overall Favorite. Big Sky won the highest accolade of Overall favorite, whilst also receiving many mentions on the website for other categories.

Reviews on the website consistently repeat phrases such as, ‘Lift lines are non-existent' and, ‘great snow and terrain,' highlighting that what Big Sky has to offer really is what people are looking for. Comments of ‘Big Sky is great' or, ‘Best snow and terrain in North America' are not uncommon.

This exposure will be great for the future of both the Resort and the general community, as not only does it indicate that people will keep returning to Big Sky year after year, but it will also highlight to prospective guests that they can count on a great vacation if they decide to visit here.

"We are all very excited that so many of our guests love Big Sky and are willing to tell the world about it," says Brandon Bang, Big Sky Resorts Director of Sales & Marketing who collected the award. "It's a great tribute that the experience at Big Sky Resort is the best."
