IceHouse Fundraiser Golf Tournament at Big Sky Resort

Big Sky, Mont. (August 8, 2013) - It might be summer but golfers will be thinking ice hockey, ice skating, and broomball at the First Annual IceHouse Open Golf Tournament Fundraiser at Big Sky Resort Golf Course, August 22, 2014 with a shotgun start at high noon. Registration ends August 20, 2014. The proceeds will go to the non-profit Big Sky Skating and Hockey Association (BSSHA) dedicated to bringing hockey, ice skating, and programs to the Big Sky community.

The IceHouse Open Golf Tournament Fundraiser is a four player, "1" club, scramble where each player on the team is allowed a single club of choice and can use their teammate's clubs. Each hole will have an event prize and Mulligans will be for sale. The $100 entry fee per person includes the green fee, golf cart, range balls, and a BBQ dinner and Horseshoe Tournament following the golf tournament at the Riverhouse Bar & Grill in Big Sky.

"As a PGA Golf Professional and hockey player, it's exciting to be a part of this fundraiser to help insure long term support and upkeep of the Big Sky Ice Rink and future improvements," said Mark Wehrman, PGA Head Golf Profressional at Big Sky Resort Golf Course.

The Big Sky Ice Rink takes over 200 person-hours to setup at the beginning of the season and take down at the end of the season. It takes 20-25 water floods, late at night, to get the rink open with another ten maintenance floods throughout the season. A donated Zamboni is used to smooth the surface of the rink which requires 120 gallons of hot water per use and some of the proceeds from the fundraiser will help build a shed for the Zamboni.

"The Big Sky Ice rink provides another opportunity for an outdoor activity," stated Ryan Blechta, President of the Board for BSSHA. "In the winter there isn't a lot of options for night time activities, as in summer we have softball, which broomball is our biggest venue under the lights."

Some holes will have putting challenges with hockey sticks and the parking lot will have a Shooter Tutor for additional fundraising.
