9th Annual Headwaters Spring Runoff at Big Sky Resort

February 24, 2014

Big Sky, Mont. (February 24, 2014) - Big Sky Resort will host the ninth annual Headwaters Spring Runoff, Saturday, March 15, 2014 for Adults and Saturday, March 22, 2014 for Juniors. Both age groups are open to skiers, snowboarders and telemark skiers. The Headwaters is known for being the steepest in-bound terrain and sets the stage for this freeride competition. The Junior event is IFSA sanctioned so that Juniors may earn points towards their IFSA standings.

The competition has seen hundreds of athletes exploring every line down the Headwaters. With fast, solid skiing and athletes dropping cliffs this year's Headwaters Spring Runoff will not disappoint. The event is open to 80 junior and 80 adult competitors offering twice as many athletes an opportunity to put their skills to the test for a chance to win great prizes, and IFSA points.

Stillwater Bowl provides the best viewing of this growing competition. The Junior athletes will pick lines from Alder Gulch run across to Hellroaring run and the Adult athletes will pick lines from Firehole run to Rock Creek run. All runs are double black diamonds.

"The Headwaters terrain is such a unique freeskiing venue. The steeps alone catch your eye with angles upwards of 55 degrees," says Dave Benes, Big Sky Resort Ski Patrol Assistant Director. "The variety of tight, technical lines and wide open amphitheater allow for multiple line combinations and tons of creativity."

Division categories are Adult Men's Ski, Men's Snowboard, Women's Ski, and Women's Snowboard. Junior categories are Boys age 11 and under, Boys 12-14 years old, Boys 15-18 years old, Girl's ages 11 and under, Girls 12-14 years old and Girls 15-18 years old. The Junior Division combines ski and snowboard unless a large number of snowboard athletes register.
Prizes will be awarded to first, second, and third place finishers in each division category and are provided by the sponsors and gift certificates from local businesses.
