Big Sky Rippers

Big Sky Rippers is the pinnacle of our Youth Local Program progression designed for advanced skiers and riders ages 10 and up who have an avid interest in avalanche education and are comfortable skiing avalanche terrain. Big Sky's most skilled instructors reinforce fundamental techniques and help students apply these skills to big mountain terrain with an emphasis on safety. Please note that your Ripper is expected to ski/ride at Level 9 on the first day of lessons in order to facilitate the objectives of the program. This translates as your child comfortably skiing Marx or Cold Spring before entering the Rippers program. The Rippers curriculum focuses on advanced ski tasks, avalanche awareness, beacon skills, and independent judgment. Group sizes are capped at four students per instructor to maintain safety and maximize individual instruction. Another exciting addition to the program is the opportunity to participate in our First Tracks program on one morning each session (weather and conditions permitting). New for 2016: avalanche gear will be required for all Rippers. This includes a working beacon, pack, shovel, and probe that Rippers will be expected to bring with them every weekend.
