1,200+ acre terrain opening at Big Sky Resort ranks among North America's largest

BIG SKY, Mont. - November 22, 2024 – Thanks to 47 inches of November snowfall—180% of the monthly average—and exceptional snowmaking conditions, Big Sky Resort will begin the 2024-25 winter season on November 27 with one of the largest terrain openings in North America.

The resort will open with four aerial lifts, 50 runs, and two terrain parks, for a total of 1,242 acres. Opening day terrain will be serviced by Ramcharger 8, Swift Current 6, Challenger, Explorer, and five surface lifts. The Lone Peak Tram will open for scenic rides only.

“Since the temperatures dropped, the snowmaking team has been making the most of every weather window. With a solid natural base plus the efforts of our team, we’re looking forward to a relatively wall-to-wall opening among our open lifts, with more terrain being assessed by patrol daily,” said Tom Marshall, the resort’s general manager of mountain experience.

The resort’s opening day will set the tone for a winter full of celebrations. Opening day festivities will kick off on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m., with complimentary hot chocolate and breakfast snacks in the base area. During après, the celebration continues with live DJs and complimentary MAP Brewing tastings.

Lift ticket offices are open daily from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.beginning Monday, November 25 for ticket and pass pickup.

Resort restaurants , including Vista Hall, Westward Social, Montana Jack, Chet’s Bar & Grill, and Mocha in the Huntley, will also open for the season on November 27.

Mountain operations teams will continue to assess terrain daily. Additional terrain and lift announcements can be found on Big Sky Resort’s trail status page (https://bigskyresort.com/trail-status).
