We’re advocating at the local, regional, and national levels to mitigate the effects of climate change and promote climate solutions.

Correspondence and Meetings

In November 2021, Big Sky Resort wrote a letter to Congress in support of including a price on carbon in the budget reconciliation bill.
 
In February 2022, Big Sky Resort’s Sustainability Specialist participated in a government meeting with congressional staff alongside Ceres and other representatives of the Outdoor Industry, including Patagonia, and Snowsports Industries America, to advocate for climate action in budget reconciliation. 
 
In May 2022, Big Sky Resort wrote a letter to Congress to make climate action a business priority by including climate investments in the reconciliation bill. 
 
In August 2022, Big Sky Resort wrote a letter to Senator Tester encouraging him to pass the Inflation Reduction Act (the $369 billion in climate investments specifically). 
 
In February 2023, Big Sky Resort wrote a letter to our State of Montana House Representative to oppose HB643, a bill that would devalue solar PV systems, by allowing the utility to set a price for net metering solely based on cost of service, rather than the PSC setting a fair price based on a cost-benefit analysis. 

Publications and Presentations

In August 2021, President and COO Taylor Middleton spoke during the Pacific Northwest Economic Region (PNWER) conference on the topic of the threat of climate change to our environment and economy.  

In April 2022, Big Sky Resort President and COO Taylor Middleton presented to the NorthWestern Energy Board of Directors on sustainability and climate projects and goals.

In April 2022, Big Sky Resort General Manager Troy Nedved co-authored a Guest Column in the Bozeman Daily Chronicle, in partnership with Bridger Bowl and the Montana Ski Area's Association, "Congress needs to act on climate to save our winters."

    Boyne Resorts signed a Business/Investor Letter to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), supporting strong and achievable clean air standards to reduce harmful pollutants such as particulate matter, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen oxide from new and existing fossil fuel power plants, circulated by Ceres, a national non-profit.
