Our Youth Local Programing is designed for the young skiers of the extended community. These programs have a twenty-plus year history with a focus on fun, camaraderie, and safety while learning more about the mountain experience. Kids 10 and under receive a free all-day lift ticket for each day in which they are enrolled in lessons.

If your child or youth are not familiar with riding a chair lift, please be sure to read the NSAA's Kid Safety page, Kids on Lifts. Children 4-6 may ride a chair lift with an instructor or an adult volunteer, additionally, children 7 and older may ride a chair lift alone or with another child. Not all chair lifts have lap bars.

Wolverines is a program for skiers ages 7-14, and serves all skiers with ability levels 1-9. We focus on developing solid technique while enjoying a variety of terrain and conditions. Skill focus is broad and blends elements of race training, free style, and all-mountain skiing. Throughout the six week session each group will receive special instruction on racing, freestyle, and avalanche awareness. These special programs will be tailored to the skiing ability of each group. Groups are capped at 6 kids per instructor in order for your child to learn in a group setting while receiving ample individual attention. The last day of each session is a celebration that includes a scavenger hunt, prizes, and an awards ceremony that is fun for the whole family. In addition to focusing on improving ski skills, Wolverines will offer an introduction to the possibilities for kids looking to take the next jump in their ski progression, whether it be the race team, the free ride time, or the Rippers program.

Big Sky Rippers

Skiers and snowboarders 10 years old and up.

Big Sky Rippers is the pinnacle of our Youth Local Program progression designed for advanced skiers and riders ages 10 and up who have an avid interest in avalanche education and are comfortable skiing avalanche terrain. Big Sky's most skilled instructors reinforce fundamental techniques and help students apply these skills to big mountain terrain with an emphasis on safety. Please note that your Ripper is expected to ski/ride at Level 9 on the first day of lessons in order to facilitate the objectives of the program. This translates as your child comfortably skiing Marx or Cold Spring before entering the Rippers program. The Rippers curriculum focuses on advanced ski tasks, avalanche awareness, beacon skills, and independent judgment. Group sizes are capped at four students per instructor to maintain safety and maximize individual instruction. Another exciting addition to the program is the opportunity to participate in our First Tracks program on one morning each session (weather and conditions permitting). Avalanche gear will be required for all Rippers. This includes a working beacon, pack, shovel, and probe that Rippers will be expected to bring with them every weekend.

Rippers operates out of the Big Sky Mountain Village and Madison Base Area and is offered on Saturday.  Choose the location that works best for your family. Each lesson starts at 9:15am and runs to 3:45pm to increase time on the slopes. We are capping the program this year, so don't delay!
