Lone Peak Tram Grand Opening

Join us for a special day in Big Sky's history as the new Lone Peak Tram opens its doors for the first time. Celebrations will start with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony and traditional bell ringing as we load up the first cabin with skiers and riders.
 
We encourage all guests to experience the new tram as a skier, snowboarder, or scenic rider. After your day on the mountain join us in the Mountain Village Plaza for live music and après at the Umbrella Bar. Don't miss your chance to be a part of this historic event!

Event Schedule

9:30 - 10 a.m.: Non-profit fundraiser first tram ride

10 - 11:30 a.m.: Coffee & treats at the lower tram terminal

10:30 a.m.: Tram ribbon cutting ceremony and traditional bell ringing at the lower terminal

12 - 4 p.m.: Live music and samples from MAP Brewing in the Mountain Village plaza

Opening December 19, 2023

Excitement is building as the biggest on-mountain infrastructure project in Big Sky history, the Lone Peak Tram, will open on December 19, 2023. To celebrate this momentous occasion, Big Sky Resort is offering the first public tram cabin with 45 guest spots to be auctioned off, with all proceeds to benefit three non-profit organizations in the community: Big Sky Community Organization (BSCO), Gallatin River Task Force, and Morningstar Learning Center.

The Auction

The auction offers ski enthusiasts the opportunity to secure their place in both Big Sky and ski history. Interested guests can vie for a chance to be one of the first passengers in the inaugural public tram ride experience, which includes a professional photographer to capture every moment of the journey, a champagne toast at the summit of Lone Mountain, and a special memento to commemorate this historic occasion. Winners will also receive a one-day lift ticket and single-ride tram access for redemption on December 19.

The Gallatin River Task Force has spent more than two decades filling the important role as the only organization solely focused on protecting and enhancing the health of the Upper Gallatin river and contributing ground and surface waters. A collaborative approach led by a passionate board and staff directs the course of their work towards a healthy Gallatin River Watershed for future generations. The Task Force relies on robust scientific data to develop impactful restoration projects, shape conservation measures, exercise programming and contribute to recommendations for water and wastewater management for broad community benefit.

Auction Details

Big Sky Resort is offering the first public tram cabin for auction with 45 guest spots available to bid on, with all proceeds benefiting three non-profit organizations in the community: Big Sky Community Organization (BSCO), Gallatin River Task Force, and Morningstar Learning Center.

Bidders can select a “buy it now” option, which guarantees a spot with a donation of $10,000. There will be 25 “buy it now” spots available. The remaining 20 spots will be available for online auction. Get your virtual paddles ready and be the first to bid on the first public Tram benefiting three invaluable community organizations.

Auction opens at 10:00 a.m. MDT on November 1, 2023, and ends at 12:00 a.m. MST on November 15, 2023.

  • We are very confident to have the tram operating and ready for auction winners and the public to experience as planned. There's still work to be done, and nothing is a guarantee, but we’re just as excited to unveil the new tram.

  • We can't predict the weather or conditions for the tram’s grand opening. If the conditions are right, we plan to offer skiing and riding off the peak, both for Auction winners and the general public.

  • We hope Mother Nature will cooperate and offer great snow conditions to ski and ride off the peak. If not, the tram will run to offer auction winners and the public scenic access to the summit.

  • Yes, winners must be able to ski a groomed green run to the lower terminal of the Lone Peak Tram.
