The Snow Report

Good Morning, Skiers and Snowboarders, this is Mario with your Big Sky Snow Report for Thursday, January 26th, 2023.

2 more inches of freshies fell last night on our Lookout Ridge Snotel. Our Bavaria Snotel is reading 7" overnight as well, this is likely more wind affected than yesterday, as winds have increased overnight. The weather has seemed to follow a similar pattern as the last 24 hours, except now there is just more wind. Yesterday's snow ended up loading the South Face with at least a foot of snow. This system is coming in from the Northwest, rolling over Lone Mountain and dropping everything it's got onto the South side. The higher you went on the Mountain, the deeper the snow would get. Winds increased yesterday and gusts out of the Northwest around 30mph on the summit, through the night, have likely started creating some significant drifts with all of this light snow.

Today's temperatures are expected to range between 14°F at the summit, and 28°F at the base area, with mid-mountain temps in the low 20's. Winds are expected to start coming out of the West by mid morning, at 10-20 mph mid mountain. Snow is expected to fall, on and off, all day long, and even more snow is expected to roll in tonight.

Yesterday certainly was a pow day to remember and serves as a great reminder of Big Sky's epic variability. At the base there was only a few inches yesterday morning, and upwards of a foot off of the summit and similar terrain. Keep checking in with the snow report as we are always trying to piece together where each storm is dropping the goods. The snow is only going to be better than yesterday, and yesterday was a really great day. As always, remember to stay safe, and have fun out there.
