Rental FAQs
Rentals can be booked online or by walk-in. We do run out of rentals over busy periods, so we recommend booking online in advance. Rentals must be booked at least 48 hours in advance.
Big Sky Sports offers rental skis from the Head brand with Head BYS boots. Rental snowboards are Rossignol and Burton boards with Burton progression boots and bindings.
Our Demo Center offers more equipment from Rossignol, Salomon, Armada, Volkl, Blizzard, Atomic, Head, Nordica, and Stockli.
The Rider's Room has boards by Capita, GNU, Lib Tech, Salomon, Nitro, K2, and Burton. This demo shop has Thirty Two boots and Burton Step-On boots and bindings.
Like our multiday lift tickets, if you would like to have a break in the middle of your ski days, you can add a skip day. Skip days allow you to store you skis in our ski valet on your non-skiing day and pick them up on your next ski day. This extra fee saves you time by eliminating the need to return and get fitted a second time.
Just like lift ticket skip days, you do not need to specify which day you will be skipping. However, unlike lift tickets, rentals equipment are held for one day and then returned.
Please note that demo equipment rentals do not allow for skip days.
We have lockers in our rental shops where you can store your shoes or bags while you are out on the mountain. You are also welcome to use the lockers in the basement of the Exchange or return your items to your car.
Big Sky Resort is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
In the summer, bike rentals must be returned before 5:30 p.m. each day of your rental reservation to Different Spokes in Mountain Village.
In the winter, rental equipment must be returned before 4:30 p.m. on the final day of your rental reservation to any Big Sky Sports location.
Late fees will be charged for equipment returned after these times.
Rental equipment is not included with lessons or guided experiences and must be purchased separately. Mountain Sports does not have its own rental equipment. Small Fry Try lessons for 2-4-year-olds are the only exception, as we provide kid's rentals with these lessons, subject to availability.
Big Sky Resort has two rental locations: the Mountain Village rental shop in the Snowcrest Building and Madison Base. During summer, only the Snowcrest location is open.

Skier Type Classification
Your skier type, height, weight, age, and boot sole length are used by the rental or demo shop technician to determine the release and retention settings for your bindings. Consult the descriptions below to select your classification. Be sure to provide accurate information, as errors may increase your risk of injury.
Type I: Cautious skiing on smooth slopes of gentle to moderate pitch
Skiers who designate themselves as Type I receive lower than-average release/retention settings. This corresponds to an increased risk of inadvertent binding release in order to promote a release in case of a fall. This type also applies to entry-level skiers uncertain of their classification.
Type II: Skiers not classified as Type I or III
Skiers who designate themselves as Type II receive average release/retention settings appropriate for most recreational skiing.
Type III: Fast skiing on slopes of moderate or steep pitch
Skiers who designate themselves as Type III receive higher than average release/retention settings. This corresponds to decreased release-ability in a fall in order to gain a decreased risk of inadvertent binding release. This classification is not recommended for skiers under 45 lbs.
