The Snow Report

The Snow Report

Good Morning, Skiers and Snowboarders, this is Joe Turner with your Big Sky Snow Report for Saturday, February 24, 2024.

It has been an awesome week of sliding in the sun but things are about to change for the better. Snow! Today will be the last of the fair weather before our next low-pressure system rolls in hopefully bringing more snow to the slopes of Lone Mountain. It has been fun sliding in Sun but dang it, it is winter so bring on the snow. The hill has been a blast with fast fun groomers, windblown chalk, spring corn and soft pow still hiding in the shadows; skiing doesn't get any better. No new snow overnight but the winds were pushing from the West pretty heavy so look for wind transported soft snow in the trees and trails of Bavaria where our snow sensors are showing 2" of snow drifted into the sensor area.

Today we will see weather start to trend to cloudy and stormy after a nice week of fair weather. Temps will stay mild with a high temp of 29°F before dropping to only a low of 26°F tonight. Winds will remain steady and from the West/Southwest at rates of 28 - 32 mph and gusts into the high 30's. Our average base depth around the mountain is 40" which most of that has fallen in the past few weeks.

Come on up and enjoy the last of the sun for a few days, in one of the most incredible mountain settings. Big Sky is truly like no other place and can only be appreciated by actually being in the presence of our massive mountain. Skiing has been incredible and is about to get better with new snow expected in the next few days. Temps are mild, snow is great and the slopes are empty so what are you waiting for? Grab those planks and some friends and go hit the white gold here in Big Sky and we hope to see you out on the mountain.

**Please, remember that unmarked obstacles and hazards exist and are prevalent so ski and ride safe. Always ski/ride with a partner and keep your partner in sight at all times.
