Lessons meet on-snow at Mountain Village, Madison Base, or the Montage Hotel, depending on your base area selection. If you're unsure which location you selected for your lesson, check your confirmation email or your order history in your account on bigskyresort.com.

If you booked a private experience, your instructor may reach out ahead of your lesson to organize a specific meeting location. If not, plan to meet at the black flag that reads "Private Lessons" in front of the Mountain Sports Office.

Detailed information about specific meeting areas will be updated in the Fall of 2026 as well as emailed out a few days before the lesson.

Private Experiences at the Mountain Village and Madison Base start at 9 AM for full-day and half-day morning sessions, or 1 PM for afternoon half-day sessions.

Private Experiences at the Montage start at 9:30 AM for full-day and half-day morning sessions, or 1:30 PM for afternoon half-day sessions.

Group Lessons at all base areas start at 9:30 AM for full-day and half-day morning lessons, or 1 PM for afternoon half-day lessons.

Lunch is included in full-day winter group lessons.  Youth Group lessons have a designated lunch room, while adult lesson participants will receive lunch at the Chet's Buffet.  Lunch is not included with half-day lessons, private lessons, or summer bike lessons.

Big Sky Mountain Sports is nut-free. Guests should not bring any type of nuts with them as snacks or lunch. Please inform Mountain Sports at checkout of any dietary restrictions.

The Small Fry Try 45 minute private lesson is the perfect length for those young and new to the sport.

Children may begin ski lessons at 18 months old. To participate, they must be comfortable being separated from their parents and fully potty trained.

Children must be at least 3 years old and fully potty trained to enroll in snowboard lessons. Younger children generally have not yet developed the balance and coordination needed for a successful snowboarding experience.

Beginners of all ages are welcome to take private and group lessons. In group lessons all participants will be sorted by ability level, so you will be with other first-timers. For kids ages 2-4, we recommend our Small Fry Try private lessons.

All our Mountain Sports lessons and programs can be booked online, over the phone, or in person at the Mountain Sports office during winter operating hours.

For the best availability, book online in advance. We do sell out of lessons on busy days. If there is no availability online or for day-of bookings, please contact us by phone at (800) 548-4486.

Lift tickets are not included with private or group lessons.  A lift ticket or valid season pass is required for all lesson participants. Including Sno-Go lessons.

In the winter, discounted lift tickets are available to children (7-14) in group lessons. These discount tickets are available to add-on to your lesson when adding the product to your cart or by contacting us.

In the summer, if you do not have a bike and bike haul lift ticket and want to take a group lesson, purchase the downhill group lesson package.  This half-day lesson option includes a bike rental and bike haul ticket for the duration of your lesson.

Want to use the bike before or after your lesson?

Rental equipment is not included with lessons, programs, or guides. If you do not have your own equipment, we recommend booking rentals with Big Sky Sports.
